Alice Anderson - Memory Movement Memory Objects

Alice Anderson is an artist that works with sculpture and performance. She studies copper as a medium. She finds interesting the properties of copper because of its conductivity and luminosity. She also likes to change the perspective of copper with her sculptures because it is normally seen as a fragile medium but when she weaves objects with it she transforms it into strong threads. Also, as part of her performance, she generates music through the repetitious movements from weaving. I like the complexity of her work and her passion and obsession for this particular medium. And how she is able to integrate sculpture and performance in a harmonious way.

"Our everyday memory is being externalized and shared and a part of it is becoming instantly collective."

"It is a way of recording and charging objects by printing them with the signature of her movements."

Inspiration for Collages

The silhouette that the stairs create is really elegant. It gives a sense of flow and dynamic movement even though it has a rough concrete finish.

Alexander McQueen Fashion Show

Alexander McQueen was constantly challenging the fashion world. This fashion show was a clear example of that. I find it really inspiring because it translates into a full performance where concepts like consumerism and superficiality are being projected. I like the boldness of McQueen in his shows and he is not afraid to propose new perspectives in the fashion world.

My thoughts

Im do not feel inspired by fashion as I do for other subjects. I respect it and I think some fashion designers are impressive and really creative. Maybe I am speaking from ignorance, but I think fashion involves so much superficiality that is hard for me to see pass that. I like fashion as a personal statement, I do think it can speak a lot from your personality and I feel that is really important.  I understand there are artistic intentions and ways of expressing concepts in fashion. But it does not move me. I can not be as empathic as I do in other matters.

Visual Complexity - M.Lima

Information visualization works as a tool for understanding data through patterns, connections and structure.

Connecting DATA : Connect the DOTS

In order to make these connections it is fundamental to learn to classify information.

John Booth Illustrations

"For the Walter Van Beirendonck collection, Booth created half psychedelic coloured, half monochrome illustrations of the garments and faces. The illustration for Raf Simons is equally as abstract, whereas Issey Miyake has an appropriately dainty and minimalistic feel. 3.1 Phillip Lim, on the other hand, has thick hard lines to reflect the graphic details of the collection."

I liked this example that portrays how using different kinds of mediums you are able to feel different textures and patterns. Thick lines, colors, pastels. Every detail gives you a sense of what the real fabric was made from.

Strokes and Lines to create texture

Yohji Yamamoto from Yohji Yamamoto’, V&A Publishers

The big silhouettes that characterize his clothes. He mostly uses black in his garments but this particular two examples show other sides of his creativity and I also like the shapes and different textures he uses in these pieces.

I liked the really modern shapes Balenciaga proposes and that it projects a really elegant look.

I liked the geometrical shapes that each garments suggest. The second work is made of algae and it makes it look that it is used by some sort of creature.
